One person was killed and five others, including two children, were injured in a shooting in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday evening, police said.
Police responded to a shooting in Northeast D.C. at around 6 p.m. in the Carver Langston neighborhood and found multiple people with gunshot wounds, Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith said at a press briefing Wednesday.
Smith said a man was pronounced dead at the scene, a 9-year-old boy, a woman and two men were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The police chief added that a little later, a 12-year-old boy also arrived at a local hospital.
"Thankfully, none of them have life threatening injuries," Smith said.

Smith said police conducted a preliminary investigation and learned that two gunmen exited a vehicle and began shooting at people who were outside in the neighborhood before fleeing.
Surveillance footage captured images of the car. Smith said the car was a gray or light-blue four-door sedan that is heavily tinted. The car also a paper license tag on the back, no front tags gray, and has a spare tire in the front passenger seat, Smith said.
Smith, said police will investigate and work to address gun violence in the city and remove illegal weapons from the streets. According to MPD data, as of April 10, there has been a 31% decline in assault with a dangerous weapon offenses compared to the same time last year. All violent crime has also gone down by 22% compared to the same time period in 2023.
“What we’re seeing is an increase in guns in the district and we’re doing everything we can to ensure we’re removing those guns off of our streets," Smith said.
No motive has been released so far, and anyone with any information is asked to contact D.C. investigators at 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
